Va. Farmers Reporting Minimal Storm Damage

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. --(AP) The Virginia Farm Bureau says Virginia farmers are reporting only minor crop damage from Superstorm Sandy.

Officials in southeast Virginia say that while they received a lot of rain, crop conditions are looking good and some growers are planning to get back into their fields by the end of the week if it dries out quickly enough. Only about 30 percent of the cotton was harvested, but all of the peanut crop already was harvested.

On Virginia's Eastern Shore, bureau officials said there was minimal crop damage.
The storm also brought snow to parts of southwest Virginia, but officials say producers in that area are used to early winter weather and no serious problems were reported.
