








FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Wesley College's field hockey team fell in the Capital Athletic Conference Championship Game, 4-2, at No. 5 Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon at Battleground Turf. The Wolverines fall to 12-9 on the season while the Eagles improve to 18-1.
Danielle Tearl actually put Wesley on top, 1-0 on an unassisted goal at 5:28 but Mary Washington was able to tie the score in the 23rd minute and the score remained even until halftime. Elizabeth Groom made five first half saves for the Wolverines as the Eagles outshot the Wolverines, 10-3.
Nine minutes into the second half, UMW took its first lead of the game but Wesley's Madison Leone tie the score with an unassisted score at 55:30. The tied score would not last long as Lisa Charney was credited with the game-winner at 60:52. The Eagles added an insurance goal with 45 seconds remaining.
Mary Washington outshot Wesley, 20-7 for the game and held a 10-3 advantage on penalty corners.
Groom finished with a team-high six saves in the cage while Brooke Gannon tallied a defensive save.
