Salisbury Rockets Back Up Polls to Nos. 15 and 11 This Week

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University football team jumped six and five spots to Nos. 15 and 11, respectively, in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and D3football.com top 25 polls, the organizations announced.

Salisbury (7-2, 5-1 Empire 8), which claimed the Empire 8's automatic qualification in the NCAA tournament with a 63-23 win over Utica College Saturday, earned 358 points in the AFCA poll to move up from No. 21 last week. The Sea Gulls are received 323 points in D3football.com voting to rise from No. 16.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville sits at No. 14 in the AFCA poll, 56 points ahead of SU, while Johns Hopkins University, which took its first loss the season Saturday, fell to No. 16, 50 points in back of the Gulls.

The University of Mount Union (1,049, 41 first-place votes) and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (1,007, one first-place vote) lead the poll and share first-place votes.

Salisbury trails Coe College for No. 10 in the d3football.com poll by 28 points, but leads 12th-ranked UW-Platteville by 12.

Mount Union is also a near-unanimous No. 1, according to D3football.com, garnering 24 first-place votes and 624 points. Mary Hardin-Baylor earned one first-place vote and 598 points.

SU travels to Frostburg State University this Saturday to close out the regular season with the 14th annual Regents Cup Game at 1 p.m.
