POTOMAC, Md.- Republican Rep. Andy Harris has won his second term in Maryland's 1st congressional district.

Harris defeated write-in Democratic candidate Dr. John Laferla. LaFerla, of Chestertown, is running in place of Wendy Rosen, who barely won the primary and abruptly stepped aside last month after the party announced it had learned she had voted in Maryland and Florida in 2006 and 2008.

It was too late to take Rosen's name off the ballot and add LaFerla's, so he ran as a write-in candidate against Harris, who is an anesthesiologist.

Harris said after his victory that he wants to see less taxes, less spending in Maryland and the health care bill reformed.
