PHILADELPHIA- University of Delaware freshmen Michaela Patzner and Janell Holmes, who led the Blue Hen field hockey team to an exciting run through the recently completed Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, have been selected to the CAA All-Tournament Team.

The two helped the No. 5 seed Blue Hens make a spirited run through the championships this past weekend as Delaware knocked off No. 4 seed William & Mary 3-2 in the quarterfinals on Friday and took top seed and host Drexel University all the way to the wire before falling 2-1 when the Dragons scored with just four seconds left to play in the semifinals on Saturday. No. 18 ranked Drexel, who the Hens defeated 4-2 in late October, went on to defeat No. 2 seed Northeastern 2-1 in the title game to earn its first-ever berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Delaware, led by second-year head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof, finished the season with a record of 8-12 and advanced to the CAA Tournament for the second straight year. The Blue Hens, whose 25-player roster featured 12 freshmen, played 11 Top 20 ranked teams during the season.

Patzner, a freshman midfielder from Rosenheim, Germany (Karolinen Gymnasium), scored Delaware's lone goal in the semifinal loss to Drexel as she tallied just 14:19 into the game to stake the Hens to a 1-0 lead. She also assisted on Delaware's first goal in the win over William & Mary. A member of the CAA All-Rookie team and a second team All-CAA all-star, she ranked second on the team this season with seven goals.

Holmes, a freshman defender from Harrisburg, Pa. (Harrisburg Christian HS), was solid on defense in both games, helping to hold two hot offenses to just two goals each. She played in 20 games during the season with 19 starts and recorded one of the team's four defensive saves on the season.

Joining Patzner and Holmes on the all-tournament team were Deirdre Duke, Crystal Poland, and Christine Tase of Northeastern. Lauren Hibshman, Lindsay McArdle, Jantien Gunter, and Amanda Fleischut of Drexel, and Rachel Wein and Taylor West of James Madison. Fleischut was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
