DOVER, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Magnolia man was arrested for his fourth DUI and related offenses following a head-on vehicle collision in Dover that left the other driver in critical condition.

Police said that at around 7 p.m. Thursday, 31-year-old Jason B. Swafford was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado southbound on South State Street, just north of Lebanon Road. Troopers said Swafford crossed the centerline and struck a 1992 Mazda Protégé head-on.

The driver of the Mazda, 50-year-old Lorri A. Buchman, who police said was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was removed from the scene by EMS and taken to Kent General Hospital. She was later transferred to Christiana Hospital where she is currently listed in critical condition, according to police.

Troopers said Swafford, who was not injured in the crash, was charged with driving under the influence, first-degree vehicular assault and failure to remain in a single lane. He was ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $9,100 cash bond.

Authorities said South State Street between Lebanon and North Old Mill roads was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash.
