CHERRY HILL, NJ -- The Shoremen's lightweight four won its race to highlight the day of the competition for the Washington College men's rowing team at the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta today in Cherry Hill, NJ.
The Shoremen's lightweight four won its three-boat race in 7:27.19, handily defeating a pair of boats from Division I schools. Lafayatte was second in 7:46.23, while Loyola was third in 8:22.17.
Washington's varsity four was second in its four-boat race against three boats from Division I schools. The Shoremen finished in 6:54.15, just 1.36 seconds behind first-place Temple (6:52.79). Maryland was third in 7:04.68, while Delaware was fourth in 7:31.95.
Washington's varsity eight placed third of six boats in its race in 6:18.82. Drexel "A" won the race in 6:10.49, Temple was second in 6:17.99, Ithaca was fourth in 6:24.20, Delaware "A" was fifth in 6:31.16, and Bucknell was sixth in 6:37.12.
The Shoremen's junior varsity eight finished fourth of six boats in its race in 7:02.97. Drexel "B" won the race in 6:25.33, Bucknell "B" second in 6:35.67, La Salle third in 6:48.42, Maryland fifth in 7:25.13, and Ithaca "B" sixth in 7:43.55.
The Shoremen and Ithaca were the only non-Division I schools in both the varsity eight and junior varsity eight races.
Junior Chris Moylan was the coxswain of the Shoremen's lightweight four. Sophomore Brian Zohorsky (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) sat stroke, freshman Tim Johnson (Darien, CT/Salisbury School) was in the three seat, junior Max Villa (Great Meadows, NJ/Pope John XXIII) sat in the two seat, and junior Dominic DiMarino (Wilmington, DE/Concord) was the bow.
Senior Jeff Nutting (Catonsville, MD/Mount St. Joseph) served as coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity four. Junior Anthony Cairo (Port Murray, NJ/Warren Hills) sat stroke, junior Conor Howlett (Tampa, FL/H.B. Plant) was in the three seat, senior Parker McIntosh (Berlin, MD/Worcester Prep) sat in the two seat, and freshman Ryan Miranda (Farmington, CT/Farmington) was the bow.
Freshman John Gould (Litchfield, CT/The Gunnery) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity eight. Cairo sat stroke, Howlett was in the seven seat, McIntosh sat in the six seat, Miranda was in the five seat, freshman Kenny Evans (McLean, VA/Bishop O'Connell) was in the four seat, junior Rob Billings (Easton, MD/Easton) sat in the three seat, freshman Mark Boissonneault (Bowie, MD/DeMatha) was in the two seat, and Zohorsky was the bow.
Freshman David Katz (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Lower Merion) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's junior varsity eight. DiMarino sat stroke, Villa sat in the seven seat, sophomore Jack Christ (Hydes, MD/Jemicy Upper School) was in the six seat, freshman Sean Haynie (Hampstead, MD/Calvert Hall)was in the five seat, freshman Max van Hoven (Reisterstown, MD/Calvert Hall) was in the four seat, sophomore Ben Sproule (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) sat in the three seat, Johnson was in the two seat, and freshman Joseph Stevens (Blandford, MA/The Gunnery) was the bow.
The Shoremen return to action tomorrow at the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta in Cherry Hill.
