Baltimore Ethics Panel Hasn't Met in 6 Years

BALTIMORE (AP)- A board responsible for overseeing Baltimore's ethics director hasn't met in at least six years.

Some city officials haven't even heard of the seven-member oversight panel, which is responsible for hiring and firing the ethics director.

City Solicitor George Nilson says the Board of Legislative Reference hasn't met since he began his job in 2007.

The board is to be composed of the mayor, the city solicitor, a City Council member, law school deans at the University of Baltimore and Maryland, the Enoch Pratt Free Library director and the Johns Hopkins University president.

Ethics director Avery Aisenstark has been scrutinized for failing to review ethics disclosure forms submitted by city officials and for doing legal work for developers who have business interest before city agencies.
