Intersection Causes Concern for Local Community

Posted:

EAST NEW MARKET, Md.- Bob Phillips has lived on the corner of the Route 16 and Route 331 intersection in Dorchester County for 31 years. He said the intersection has become an accident waiting to happen.

"It's definitely dangerous, there are usually two or three accidents every year but I think most of the reason why is people's negligence," Phillips said.

Phillip's neighbor, Pamela Pitt has seen accident after accident. It once used to startle her, but over the years she says, it's become an all too common occurrence.

"I am not surprised anymore, when I hear a noise now I say oh well another accident, I used to jump," she said.

Beach and commercial traffic have made the intersection of Route 331 and Route 16 one of the most dangerous in Dorchester County, and many people believe the stop sign just is not cutting it.

Pitt wants a change and said lower the speed limit or adding a traffic light would be better options.

"I think it would be a stop light because you can put warnings back some I think there are some but I don't see where it's doing anything," Pitt said.

On the other hand Phillips does not think a light would do any good.

"I don't know if a light a blinking light will help," Phillips said. "If they are going to run a stop sign, they will run a blinking light."
