DOVER, Del.- Delaware State University WR/KR Travis Tarpley (r-sr.; Danville, Va.) has been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) for his play in the Hornets' 35-27 win over Hampton last Saturday.
Tarpley was named MEAC Offensive-Player-of-the-Week after catching six passes for a career-high 171 yards and two touchdowns in the contest. He had 212 all-purpose yards in the game to become the Hornets' career leader with 4,515.
Entering this weekend, Tarpley leads the MEAC in receptions at 7.4 per game (74 total) and in receiving yards at 97.1 pg (971 total). In addition, he's tied for second in the league with six touchdown receptions.
Tarpley needs 29 receiving yards in the Hornets' season finale this Saturday to become the second player in team history with 1,000 in a season. He needs 79 receiving yards to set a new DSU single-season record.
The current record of 1,049 was set by David Jones in 1990.
The Hornets (6-4; 5-2 MEAC) will wrap up the 2012 season at Howard on Saturday (Nov. 17). Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Greene Stadium in Washington, D.C.
