Concerns Over Dangerous Intersection Not Voiced to SHA

Posted: Updated:

HURLOCK, Md.- Frequent accidents, including fatalities, have sparked a growing concern for those who live closest to the intersection of Route 331 and Route 16 in Dorchester County.

Francis Ridgell and his neighbor Bob Phillips want safety measures put in place.

"I think they ought to put a red-flashing light at this stop sign and the same down on 16 near Preston Ford," said Ridgell.

"Those lights are supposed to come on at night are not always working which it lights up that intersection and it would be more beneficial to everyone," said Phillips.

A representative with the State Highway Administration tells WBOC that the SHA has received no formal complaints about the intersection of Route 16 and Route 331 but if concerns are raised officials would be willing to look into it to see if any changes need to be made to improve the overall safety.

Phillips said he has no problem voicing his concerns to the SHA, but he is not optimistic action will be taken.

"I wouldn't have any problem calling them up and telling them I have concerns about this area, I mean that's no problem whatsoever and I probably should I just never have, I don't know if they really listen," Phillips said.

But listen or not, without driving for a change, this intersection would remain as is.
