Local Soccer Association to Anchor Kent County Sports Complex

Posted: Updated:

MILFORD, Del.- The Central Delaware Soccer Association will be anchoring the Kent County Regional Sports Complex that is going to be built in Milford.

Many people are happy about what the complex will do for kids in the area, but they are divided over the effect the complex will have on the area.

Bill Austin thinks the facility will be good for young people but he is worried about what will happen in the area.

"I don't need Delaware turned into New Jersey," Austin said. "I don't like how New Jersey and Long Island are developed. I like this state, I like the agricultural-ness of it."

But the area will not be empty for long, and that means more cars and traffic on Route 1. But the increased traffic could be good for local businesses.

"It means $18 million in direct economic impact back to central Delaware," said Bill Strickland with the Greater Dover Committee.

And that's why Henry Meding supports the development. He said, "We need to do everything we can to support growth in Delaware."

Construction is expected to begin in 2013.
