CHANDLER, Ariz.– Wesley College's Madison Leone has been named to the 2012 Longstreth/ NFHCA Division III All-South Region First Team, it was announced by the field hockey coaches association on Thursday.
This is the second time that Leone has earned All-Region honors after collecting first team recognition in 2010. A junior from Dover, Del., Leone shared Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors after finishing second in the CAC with 20 goals, 47 points and five game-winning goals while ranking fifth in the conference with seven assists.
An extremely versatile midfielder who plays all over the field, Leone also recorded three defensive saves and was the only player in the conference to be ranked in the top five in goals, assists and points. In just three seasons with the Navy & White, Leone is already third in school-history in goals (59), assists (22) and points (140).
All of her totals are already among the CAC career leaders. Leone is now eligible for All-America honors which will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The Wolverines finished the 2012 season with a 12-10 record which included a trip to their third-straight CAC Championship Game after defeating #2 Salisbury on the road in the conference semifinals.
Wesley also earned the top seed in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.
