BERLIN, Md.- Maryland State Police said that on Friday they received calls from the area of Maid at Arms Lane in the Glenn Riddle Community in reference to some people in red pickup truck driving through the community throwing explosive devices from their car.

Police along with Sheriff's Deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff's Office responded and during a traffic stop were able to find the car moments after the call was dispatched.

Authorities said that an extensive investigation showed the suspects were throwing homemade bombs from their vehicle. The explosive devices were manufactured from common household products that were bought at a local convenience store just prior to the incident. The Fire Marshall's Office identified the explosive devices as "hydrogen gas bombs."

Police said the suspects not only put citizens and property at risk but also put themselves at risk while manufacturing these devices. The devices explode and cause severe chemical burns. The investigation revealed that these devices were being manufactured in the passenger area of the pickup, passed to other passengers and then subsequently thrown out of their vehicle as a chemical reaction was occurring within the devices. Several of these devices exploded on the roadways and near homes and vehicles within the Glenn Riddle Community.

Authorities said there were no injuries or private property damage reported as a result of the explosives.

The five suspects were charged of which four juveniles were released to their parents. The adult was taken before a district court commissioner and released on personal recognizance. All suspects are awaiting a court hearing.
