Police in Talbot County Warn of Text Message Scam

Posted:

EASTON, Md.- The Talbot County Sheriff's Office is investigating a text message scam that leads unsuspecting cellphone customers to believe they have won a $1,000 gift card to Target.

According to investigators, the message states the following:  "Your entry last month has WON!  Go to http://TargetContest.com/ and enter code 4787 to claim your free $1000 Target Gift Card within 24 hours!"

The Sheriff's Office said representatives from Target have been contacted and verified this is a false claim. Target representatives also advised this is not an authorized text message and that it should be ignored.

The public is advised to never personal information to any suspect website as personal information could be compromised.

Anyone with additional information or questions about this is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (410) 822-1020 or sheriff@talbotcountymd.gov.
