COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team is adding four outstanding players to the team for the 2014 season, head coach Laura Watten announced Tuesday.
"We are very excited the strength, depth and versatility of our signing class," head coach Laura Watten said. "This is a very determined and enthusiastic group of signees who will have an immediate impact and enable us to continue our success and growth as a program."
The class is made up of Sarah Calta (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls), Kylie Datil (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta), Hannah Dewey (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) and Emily Libero (Morrisville, N.C./Cary).
Sarah Calta • Outfield • 5-4
Hometown: Reisterstown, Md.
High School: St. Paul's School for Girls (Kelly Wilkinson)

About Calta: Pitcher at St. Paul's School for Girls...team won IAAM Championship in 2012...owns school strikeout record...named Varsity Sports Athlete of the Week, Extra Innings Athlete of the Week and was a finalist for Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Week...named a 2011-12 All-Star...played for Maryland Black Ice...nominee for USSSA Player of the Year...team was USSSA Emily Burke Champion, ASA For the Cure champions, ASA Delaware state champions, TNT invitational showcase undefeated.

About Datil: Has played centerfield all three years at Vista Murrieta High School...team has won league title in all three years...hit .368 as a junior, .342 as a sophomore and .457 as a freshman...named First Team All-League in 2011 and 2012 and Second Team All-League in 2010...named to Redlands All-Tournament Team and Santiago All-Tournament Team...club team, Corona Angels, won 2008 national and state titles and was a national runner-up in 2009.

Hannah Dewey • Pitcher/Outfield • 5-9

About Dewey: Pitcher at Great Oak High School...as a junior in 2012, carried an ERA of 2.36 with 132 strikeouts and hit .339...as a sophomore in 2011, was third in her league in strikeouts (128), and at the plate, was third in batting average (.500)...named an Athletic Scholar...named All-Southwestern League Honorable Mention as a junior and Second Team as a sophomore...played for Mel Sievers with the California Cruisers 18 Gold and Danny Mercado at Great Oak.
Laura Watten on Dewey: "Hannah is a natural left-handed pitcher who will have an immediate impact for us in the circle while also adding depth to our outfield. She is a strong and competitive player who will provide a spark to our offense with good speed and power at the plate."

About Libero: Has played second base, third base, shortstop and pitcher for the Cary Imps...hit .511 as a junior in 2012 with a 1.02 slugging percentage and served as team captain...in 19 games in 2012, notched 23 RBI off 26 hits...as a sophomore in 2011, hit. .391 with 11 RBI in 15 games off 18 hits...as a freshman in 2010, hit .466 with 27 hits in 19 games...named to the All Tri-Nine Conference team in 2010, 2011, 2012 and the All-District Team in 2011 and 2012.
