DOVER, Del.- The Delaware State University women's basketball team will play its 2012-13 home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 21, against in-state rival Wilmington University. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The Lady Hornets are seeking their first win of the 2012-13 season. DSU has suffered road losses to nationally-ranked Kentucky, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Fordham in its three games.
Sophomore forward Tierra Hawkins, a 2012-13 preseason All-MEAC First Team selection, has been a bright spot for the Lady Hornets so far this season. Hawkins leads the team in scoring (20.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.3 pg) in the early going. Her season highlights include a career-high 28 points in the opener at Kentucky.
Junior Deanna Harmon is second on the Lady Hornets in scoring (9.3 ppg) and third in rebounding (5.7 pg).
Sophomore guard Jade Washington leads the club with seven assists.
Delaware State and Wilmington are meeting for the second straight year. The Lady Hornets won last year's encounter 80-32 in Memorial Hall.
Hawkins recorded a "double-double" in her Delaware State debut, tallying 21 points and 10 rebounds. Harmon added 20 points ibn the contest.
Delaware State leads the series 2-0.
