BALTIMORE (AP)- A jury has convicted the civil rights chief at the Maryland attorney general's office of misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Carl Snowden on Tuesday received a suspended 60-day sentence and a year of probation from Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed.

David Paulson, a spokesman for the attorney general's office, says it is a personnel matter and officials have not had a chance to discuss the verdict with Snowden.

Snowden was arrested on the marijuana charge after a vehicle he was in was pulled over for a broken tail light in April with a co-defendant. The co-defendant, Anthony Hill, pleaded guilty in June, saying the drugs were his.

Snowden took a leave of absence in April to pursue a lawsuit in a separate matter.
