Community Lifeguard Class Available

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del.– Register now for the December session of Ellis Lifeguard classes at the YMCA in Dover! Ellis and Associates Lifeguard Certification/Licensing is an international program that qualifies passing candidates to work as lifeguards in the USA and abroad.

Participants must be 15-years-old before the course begins, perform surface dive in deep water to retrieve 10 pound brick, tread water for 2 minutes with hands out of water, and swim 100 continuous yards of freestyle or breaststroke in good form. Students must pass written test with 80percent. Bring to class swim suit and towels and writing material. Due to new regulations from the CDC's (Center for Disease Control) Model Aquatic Health Code, all lifeguards must re-certify every year by taking the entire course. Classes begin Dec. 7, and run over 3 days. Adults are encouraged to attend!

Every Ellis Lifeguarding course is open to the community. Community registration fee is $330 for first time students, recertification is $185. Cost includes CPR, First Aid, lifeguard manual, CPR mask and registration/license fees. Call for reduced program member and member rates.

For more information or future dates, call (302) 346-9622 or email dbeverin@ymcade.org . For a list of all classes, visit ymcade.org/branches/central_de/programs.
