NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Wesley College men's basketball team dropped a 81-79 quadruple overtime contest at Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon at the Captains Point Plaza Invitational.
Jacquard Hagan scored a team-high 19 points, including a three pointer from about 27 feet out with 15 seconds remaining to force overtime. David Langan scored 16 points and also pulled down a career-high 23 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Wesley was Quincy Pettiford with 11 and Paul Reynolds with ten.
Neither team shot well but the big differential was on free throw shooting as the Captains made 27-of-39 attempts from the line while Wesley made just 23-of-38.
The Wolverines, who missed a potential game-tying shot with four seconds left in the fourth overtime, were without Reynolds and starting point guard Eric Selby in the overtime periods, who both fouled out in regulation.
CNU was led by Mike Cherry, who scored a game-high 28 points, including 15-of-17 from the line.
Wesley will take on #12 Birmingham-Southern in the Tournament Consolation Game tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm.
