NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Paul Reynolds scored a game-high 19 points but Wesley College's men's basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting Birmingham Southern team that came in ranked 12th in the Nation. The Panthers shot 51.2% and defeated the Wolverines, 65-57, in the consolation game of the CNU Point Plaza Invitational.
Reynolds finished 9-of-21 shooting and also grabbed seven rebounds but Wesley shot just 37.9 percent as a team. Jacquard Hagan also pitched in with nine points for the Wolverines.
Wesley trailed the entire game and fell behind 9-0 before Reynolds got the team on the board on a layup with 16:31 left in the first half. The Panthers led by as many as 14, but Wesley cut the lead to as little as two several times, but could not get over the hump.
The Wolverines return to action on Tuesday, November 27 when they host Hampden-Syndey at 7 pm.
