








WASHINGTON – Georgetown University sophomore Otto Porter Jr. (Morley, Mo./Scott County Central) was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon.
The Hoyas improved to 4-1 with a 72-50 win over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday
at Verizon Center. The win capped off a 2-1 week for the Blue &
Gray, who beat then-No. 13 UCLA, 78-70, in the semifinals of the Legends
Classic in Brooklyn, and then lost 82-72 in overtime to No. 1 Indiana
in the championship game.
Georgetown's
performance last week resulted in the team's first national ranking
this season, with the Hoyas appearing at No. 20 in the latest Associated
Press poll and No. 25 in the latest USA Today Coaches' poll.
Porter
averaged 16.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 3.0 blocks and 2.0
steals. He connected on 61.3 percent of his field goals (19-of-31) and
hit 85.7 percent of his three-point field goals (6-of-7).
In
his first full game of the season, he recorded his first double-double
of the season, and the fourth of his career, with 18 points and 11
rebounds during the win over UCLA, adding career-highs in assists (5)
and blocks (5) while adding three steals. He scored 15 points, had five
rebounds and four assists in the loss to Indiana.
On Saturday against the Mount, he scored a game-high 17 points with a game-high 13 rebounds for his fifth career double-double.
Porter
earned several preseason honors this season, being named to the watch
lists for the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award. He was name an
Associated Press preseason honorable mention All-American and was
selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
Porter
finished the 2011-12 season ranked fourth on the team in scoring with
9.7 points per game and led the team in rebounds with 6.8 per game. He
appeared in all 33 of GU's games, starting eight times, and led the team
in field goal percentage, connecting on 52.5 percent of his shots from
the floor. Porter, who averaged 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals, reached
double figures in scoring 14 times, had seven double figure rebounding
games and recorded three double-doubles.
Georgetown is back in action this weekend, hosting Tennessee as part of the SEC/BIG EAST Challenge on Friday, Nov. 30 at Verizon Center. Tipoff at Verizon Center is slated for 6:30 p.m. The game can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
