Winter Wonderland Elf Stolen in Dover

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del.- He isn't hiding behind the holiday tress, he isn't walking down Loockerman Street and he definitely isn't in his usual spot in Winter Wonderland.

A 4-foot-tall elf was stolen Tuesday morning and the Downtown Dover Partnership is begging for his return.

"Children are crying, they should be ashamed of themselves," said Tonda Parks with the partnership. "It's a joke if they return it. It's not a joke if they don't return it."

Witnesses from the Golden Fleece Tavern say they saw some people climb over the fence and carry the elf away.

"We think it was a midnight funny prank and we're really hoping they'll take the time and bring it back," Parks said.

Many are shocked something like this would happen so close to the holidays.

"I don't believe someone would do something like that. It's not right to me," Rick Wilson said. "It's Christmas, you don't do that, you don't steal Santa's elf."

While officials from the Downtown Dover Partnership have filed a police report, they say they do not want to get anyone in trouble. They just want their elf back. They are even offering a reward.

"I would put $100 reward to anyone that would have information leading to the capture or return of the elf," said Mike Harrington of the Downtown Dover Partnership.
