








COLLEGE PARK, Md.
– Alyssa Thomas scored 25 points and Tianna Hawkins scored 21 to lead No. 10 Maryland to a 90-71 win over No. 29 Nebraska Wednesday night in the ACC/Big
Ten Challenge.
Hawkins
also grabbed 12 rebounds while Thomas had a career-high eight assists
and six steals for the Terrapins (4-1). Laurin Mincy scored 16 points
for Maryland.
Lindsey Moore led the Cornhuskers (5-2) with 17 points and five steals. Jordan Hooper scored 15 for Nebraska.
The
Huskers led by three with 5:41 remaining in the first, but Mincy made a
jumper from the elbow to spark an 11-2 run. In the run, Mincy scored 10
point in just over two minutes and freshman Chloe Pavlech
added back-to-back three pointers. The Terps took a 44-35 lead at the
break.
The Terrapins kept it up in the second half, outscoring the Huskers, 44-34.
With
her 12 rebounds, Tianna Hawkins broke the 800-rebound plateau and now
has 805. She is just the seventh Terp to grab over 800 boards.
Maryland is 6-0 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and is the only unbeaten team remaining in the Challenge.
The
Terrapins lead the country in rebounding margin by an astounding +28.0.
They are top 10 in the country in assists
per game (3), scoring margin (5) and assist/turnover ratio (10).
Hawkins is second in the country with her field goal percentage of .711.
She led the nation last year. DeVaughn is fourth in the same statistic
with her percentage of .690.
Next, the Terrapins will take on No. 2 Connecticut (6-0) Monday in Hartford, Conn. as part of the Jimmy V Classic. The Terps and the Huskies will play at 7 p.m. in the XL Center.
