LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police are looking for a suspect wanted in connection with an attempted murder in Laurel.

Investigators said 24-year old Manuel Vasquez stabbed a 27-year-old man in the face Thursday afternoon near Five Points Liquor Store. According to police, the two men got into a fight at which time Vasquez stabbed the victim in the face multiple times.

The owner of Five Points Liquor Store tells WBOC that the stabbing happened along a sidewalk, just a few feet away from his store. An eyewitness who wants to remain anonymous tells WBOC he saw the whole thing unfold right in his backyard.

That neighbor also tells WBOC that saw a few men arguing before one of them got stabbed.

The blood-stained grass is a tragic reminder of what happened.

Joseph Mullen, who lives nearby, said, "I've been here for a little over two months. I've seen more drama in two months than I've seen in my life span."

Mullen is n ot alone. Other neighbors in the area who did not want to speak with WBOC on camera say crime is on the rise.

Police said after Vasquez stabbed his victim in the face, he ran away from the scene.

"I think we need to focus on the right way of doing things, as much as we think it's hard doing that, but the outcome will definitely come out gratefully," said Mullen.

Mullen and others in the community say they hope something is done about what seems to be an increase in crime in Laurel.

Police said Vasquez is also wanted for assault and possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony.

Anyone with information on Vasquez's whereabouts can make an anonymous call to police at 1-800-TIP-3333.
