RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Colonial Athletic Association is taking its men's basketball tournament to Baltimore.
League officials say the tournament will be held at 1st Mariner Arena for three years beginning next season. The announcement was made in Baltimore.
The CAA has its headquarters in Richmond and once had Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth as members. The Spiders left for the Atlantic 10 a decade ago and VCU followed suit after last season. The tournament has been held in Richmond since 1990.
Once dominated by Virginia schools, the league also is losing Old Dominion to Conference-USA following this season, leaving George Mason, James Madison and William & Mary as its only Virginia members.
Commissioner Tom Yeager says Baltimore is a central location with 7 of the league's 10 teams located within 250 miles.
