DOVER, Del. - Many people around the world, and on Delmarva, celebrated a rather unusual once-in-a-century date on Wednesday. It was the 12thday of the 12th month of the year 2012: 12-12-12. It is also the last day of the century when the numbers fall in chronological order. It is also a day that some numerologists say can have both mystical and magical rare occurrences.
Belicia Perez of Dover celebrated her 12th birthday Wednesday.
"I started class and did my work and people were just like excited saying, 'I'm coming to your party!' They told me they're going to get their hits, their 12 (birthday) hits," she said as she giggled.
Belicia is a sixth grader at William Henry Middle School in Dover.
"You're going to get a shout out to the entire school today," said Toriano Giddens, principal at William Henry Middle School in Dover.
After school, Belicia was hard at work in the kitchen helping her mom prepare for her birthday party.
"I've been planning it since last year. As soon as her birthday came last year, I looked at the date and thought we have to plan a big party for this. This is a special day," said Tyleane Perez, Belicia's mother.
About 50 people were expected to attend her daughter's birthday party.
So what's on her wish list?
"A phone and money," said Belicia while laughing.
"This day is going to be a wonderful day for us," Perez said.
A special day, for a special girl, celebrating a once in a lifetime day.
