Search Continues for Missing Salisbury University 'Thinker' Statue

Posted:

SALISBURY, Md.- Police at Salisbury University are searching for a missing statue.  The replica of "The Thinker" that is normally located outside of the Student Arts Center has been missing since Saturday.  The sculpture is 2-feet-tall and weighs 100 pounds.  Authorities believe it could be worth anywhere from $10,000 to $12,000, so finding it quickly is their ultimate goal.

"We have about 400 surveillance cameras on campus. We're going through footage and tying some leads together there so I haven't lost hope that we aren't going to recover it," said Brian Waller of university police.

While police continue to follow up on anonymous tips, students have already begun to formulate their own motives for the crime.

"My guess is somebody is about to graduate and wanted a nice little keepsake so they took the best thing they thought and grabbed the 100-pound statue," said SU junior Patricia Rose.

Others cannot seem to understand why someone would steal the statue in the first place.

"I think it's just stupid to take away from the campus we're all attending. It's a pretty good looking campus, you know, why take away from it?" John Collier, a sophomore at SU.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the statue is asked to contact Salisbury University Police at (410) 543-6222.
