DOVER, Del.- Police in Delaware have scheduled three DUI checkpoints across the state this coming weekend as part of a crackdown against drunk driving.
According to the state Office of Highway Safety, the checkpoints will be held this weekend at the following locations:
Friday, Dec. 14
- Newark- (New Castle County DUI Task Force)- checkpoint
Saturday, Dec. 15
- Seaford- (multi-jurisdictional effort)- checkpoint
- Dover- (multi-jurisdictional effort)- checkpoint
The checkpoints are part of the ongoing Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign, a regional sobriety campaign aimed at arrested DUI offenders. The OHS said that last weekend, officers arrested five people for DUI as part of the campaign. In addition, officers issued issued one cellphone citation, apprehended one wanted person, made two drug arrests, issued two seat belt citations and 26 citations for various other traffic violations.
There have been more than 4,600 DUI arrests made statewide since January, according to the OHS.
