DOVER, Del.- Spending the holidays in the hospital is nothing new for Ethan Armstrong.

"He was in here last Christmas Eve. He's missed three Halloweens but what can you do," said Ethan's mom Jessica Armstrong.

Ethan's asthma is acting up again so he's back at Kent General Hospital in Dover for treatment.

"He's in here a lot. He was just here in August," Jessica Armstrong said.

And as one might expect, it is not much fun.

"I have an IV. I have to call a nurse to go to the bathroom. I have to call a nurse if I can't reach anything," Ethan said.

But the staff and local businesses are lifting the spirits of the young patients.

"A lot of the kids get very excited who are going to be here Christmas Eve," said nurse Lori Nester. "We get a lot of donations brought in and Santa actually delivers them on Christmas Eve."

For local businesses, giving is more important this time of year than receiving.

"It's absolutely wonderful to bring joy," said Stephanie Heist with WSFS bank. "It's a hard time for anybody to be in the hospital this time of year but especially the children."

Toys are nice but parents want the ultimate gift.

"Hopefully they get better as soon as they can so they can get home to their family," Margo Moyer said.
