RIDGLEY, Md.- Maryland State Police have announced the arrest of a Ridgely woman accused of murdering her father, who had just turned 90.

Fifty-eight-year-old Janice Cohee is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and  second-degree assault, manslaughter and reckless endangerment.

Troopers said Cohee claimed two intruders had broken into the Ridgley home shortly before 6 p.m. Monday and demanded money and assaulted her father, Arthur Cohee, while she hid in another room.

However, police said Janice Cohee provided conflicting information and her account did not match evidence found at the scene.

Troopers said Arthur Cohee lived with his daughter. His body was found in a chair in a kitchen with obvious trauma to the head and neck. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.

Police said Janice Cohee called 911 shortly after the incident to report that her father was dead. She was arrested early Tuesday on the aforementioned charges and ordered held without bond at the Caroline County Detention Center.

Police said a motive in the murder remains unclear. They also noted that Arthur Cohee had turned 90 the day of his death.
