DOVER, Del.- The YMCA in Dover has undergone a $2.6 million expansion. A basketball gym has been added and the weight room expanded. The Dover Y serves 7,000 people annually.

Steven Arnold is retired. But if you see him greeting people at the Dover Y, don't tell him that.

"If I knew about it 20 years ago, rather than being a businessman, I would have gone to the Y," he said.

He spends his days helping people around the facility, which recently expanded its weight room and added a new basketball court. Arnold said his job these days is to brighten people's days.

"People come in, their faces are down and I say, 'Hey how are you today?' and they say, 'I'm not good.' And I say, 'You gotta be great, you'll be great when you come out of here,'" he said.

For personal trainers at the Y, the expansion has made for easier workouts and happier members.

"The members they've been complaining because everyone was on top of each other, the equipment was so close to each other and for the members it's a dream come true," said trainer Melvin Williams.

The Dover Y will hold a ribbon cutting for the expanded facility on Jan. 5.
