Del. Fire Marshal's Office Investigates Camden House Fire

Posted: Updated:

CAMDEN, Del.-The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a house fire that happened Christmas Day in Camden.

Authorities said that at around 2 a.m., a neighbor reported the fire in the 3900 block of Peachtree Run between Vanessa Drive and Lochmeath Way south of Camden.

The Camden-Wyoming Fire Company responded to the 9-1-1 call.

Fire officials said the heavy fire was coming from a one-story single family dwelling with the sole occupant of the home safely outside.

Crews had the fire under control shortly before 3 a.m.

Investigators determined the fire originated in an unoccupied bedroom with the cause of the fire still under investigation.

Officials said the fire caused heavy fire damage to the dwelling estimated at $75,000.

It is unknown at this time if the home was equipped with working smoke detectors. The occupant of the home is staying with nearby relatives.

Authorities said there were no injuries reported.

It would be the next chapter in Maryland's efforts to comply with a Court of Appeals ruling that defendants have a right to legal counsel at every bail hearing. Legislators failed to agree on a solution this past session.
