A WBOC NewsWatcher sent in this photo of Wednesday morning's train derailment that occurred south of Bridgeville.BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Authorities say a propane tanker and several gravel cars derailed near Bridgeville on Wednesday, prompting a precautionary evacuation of a handful of homes, though no spill or leak is known to have occurred.
Sussex County emergency officials said the derailment of the Norfolk Southern train occurred just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on the tracks along Wilson Farm Road south of the Wesley Church Road intersection.
There were no injuries reported from the derailment, officials said.
An inspection of the tanker car, which was carrying 33,000 of propane gasoline, showed no evidence of any leak, officials said.
Both Wilson Farm Road and Wesley Church Road were temporary closed to traffic as the railroad cars were uprighted. As a further precautionary measure, some residents in the area of the derailment were evacuated.
Residents saiid the incident made them uneasy. Amanda Joseph of Bridgeville said, "It's very scary to me. I mean we have small children and propane is of course flammable and not good to be in the soil and it can happen right in our backyard. Well, it can happen anywhere I guess but we're just lucky it wasn't closer to our house."
