Sussex GOP Committee Chair Dies

FRANKFORD, Del.- Jerry Wood, chairman of the Sussex County Republican Committee, died Friday morning at his home in Frankford. He was 73.

According to a release put out by the county Republican committee, Wood was born Sept 4, 1939 in rural Clinton Co, Ind.  For most of his career, he worked in the Department of Defense and in other United States government operations. He was also heavily involved in Washington area real estate and actively purchased and rehabilitated houses in the national capital region.

He was elected chairman of the Sussex County Republican Committee in March and had been actively involved in Delaware GOP politics since 2008.  He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., in August.

He is survived by his brothers Delbert and Richard and by his son, Kent, and four grandchildren.

He will be interred beside his late wife at the Garden of Remembrance Cemetery in Clarksville, Md.

Plans for a memorial service are still being formulated and will be made known when they are finalized.
