MILFORD, Del. (AP)- Five veterans who live at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford will not have to comply with a new ban on smoking around state buildings in Delaware.

The five residents who smoke and live at the state-run facility will be allowed to continue smoking in its designated smoking area. A total of 115 people live at the facility.

Delaware has banned indoor smoking in public places since 2002. But the new policy effective Tuesday prohibits smoking near state buildings including parking lots and walkways.

The Delaware Secretary of State granted an exception to the ban for the facility.
