NEWARK, Del. (AP)- Main Street is getting a little longer in the city of Newark.
As of Tuesday the city's Elkton Road from West Main Street to West Park Place will become South Main Street. City officials say that while Elkton Road was often seen as where downtown ended the street has in fact been part of downtown since the City Council expanded the downtown boundaries in 2007.
City officials believe the street's name change will help foster additional growth by associating the area more closely with the existing Main Street, which has both east and west branches. The city is planning an event Friday to mark the name change.
