Girl Hit During New Year's Gunfire Dies

ELKTON, Md. (AP)- The Cecil County Sheriff's Office says a 10-year-old struck apparently by a bullet from celebratory gunfire has died.

Deputies say Aaliyah Destiny Boyer of Manheim, Pa., died Thursday the A. I. Dupont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Del., where she was taken after the incident early Tuesday.

Officers said witnesses reported several people were outside watching fireworks when the child collapsed. Residents said numerous gunshots were heard in the area at the start of the new year. Officials say a trauma injury was observed at the top of the girl's head.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted and the investigation into the incident is continuing.
