Wesley Men's Hoops Wins Seventh Straight

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Wesley College men's basketball team won its seventh-straight game with a 65-48 victory over Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.  With the win, Wesley (12-4, 2-1 CAC) matches its win total from last season while the Eagles fall to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Paul Reynolds led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, to go with 12 rebounds for a double-double.  The Smyrna High graduate also dished out four assists and had four steals.  The leading rebounder in the conference, David Langan pulled down a game-high 14 on the day, to go with eight points, just missing out on a double-double.

Wesley also got key contributions from Quincy Pettiford and Wayne Lennon, who scored nine and eight points, respectively.  Freshmen point guards AJ Tilghman and Anthony Bowers also pitched in with five points apiece for the Wolverines, who outshot the Eagles, 41.2% to 32.1% and held a 49-34 advantage on the glass.

Mary Washington actually led with a three to open the game, but Wesley scored the game's next nine points and never looked back from there.  Reynolds scored the first six points during the run and Wesley went into halftime with a 28-18 advantage.

Opening the second half, Wesley was quick to extend the lead and led by as many as 22 with 2:53 left in regulation.

Taylor Johnson (13) and Sean Armstrong (12) were the only Eagles to score in double figures.

After winning nine of their last ten games, the Wolverines travel to Frostburg State on Wednesday, January 9, for a 6 pm CAC tipoff. The Bobcats boast the leading scorer in the CAC in Christian 'Boo' Jackson, who averages 26.3 points per game
