SALISBURY, Md. - Firefighters battled flames at a house fire on Jersey Road in Salisbury early Monday morning.

Luckily, no one was injured.

Assistant Fire Chief, Bryan Records, says he believes they know what caused the blaze.

"The cause of the fire preliminarily appears to be a defective furnace.  The call that we received indicated that they had a working fire in the basement," says Records.

Records says the flames did not get above the first floor.

No one was at the house at the time of the 2a.m. fire, but Records says a dog was rescued from the home.

Records adds this was the third overnight fire in Salisbury in the last week.

He says free smoke detectors are available at the fire stations in Wicomico County.
