Raises Recommended for Some Officials in Del.

Updated:

DOVER, Del.- Delaware's Compensation Commission on Tuesday released its final recommendation on salaries for state officials.

The commission suggests raises over the next four years for seven cabinet members, including the secretaries of state and transportation. Also on the list for recommended raises - every major member of the state judicial system.

"It doesn't bother me that much," said Sen. Colin Bonini, R-Dover. "And as you know I'm not a big spender. I don't like to spend a whole lot of money in state government. But those are very responsible position."

"I think that our constituents had to tighten their belts and survive during the economic downturn," Sen. Robert Marshall, D-North Wilmington, said. "We need to consider the fact that judges and others do not necessarily need that pay increase."

"I would say that I'm not very happy with that," said Rep. Debbie Hudson, R-Wilmington. "I'm very disappointed that the governor sighted special cap and secretaries of the judiciary.  I very respect the judiciary, but I don't think that the court system will be much if the well paid judges get a little bit more"

The Compensation Commission only makes a recommendation. The state legislature gets final say on if these offices will see the pay bumps.
