FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - A Frederick man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for leading police on a car chase that injured two people.
Roy Ellsworth Summers II apologized as he was sentenced for the July chase, which ended in Thurmont when he crashed into a deputy's cruiser.
Summers' lawyer said his client had struggled with drug abuse and asked the judge to consider an 18-month sentence. Lawyers say he was under the influence of PCP during the crash.
The chase began after a deputy spotted Summers driving erratically. Authorities say Summers rear-ended a car, trying to push it off the road, then struck a deputy's cruiser before stopping. A police officer and civilian were injured.
Summers was also sentenced on a probation violation charge.
