LITTLE CREEK, Del.- Delaware State Police say a pilot was killed when a small plane crashed in Kent County.

The single-engine, fixed-wing plane went missing just after 7 p.m. Sunday. According to police, the Piper plane vanished off radar after an emergency call was placed to the control tower at Dover Air Force Base.

At 9:35 p.m. Sunday, members of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company found the wreckage of a small aircraft, believed to be that of the missing plane, on White Oak Road in Dover. One fatality has been confirmed, and is reported to be the pilot, who was the plane's sole occupant. The pilot's name has not yet been released.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
