BALTIMORE (AP/WBOC)- Maryland transportation officials are offering some travel advice for those attending the presidential inauguration next week.
Officials on Monday urged inauguration attendees to use mass transit to travel to Washington on Jan. 21. They said traffic delays are expected on the roads, though signal technicians will adjust signal timing to try to keep traffic moving.
High-occupancy vehicle lanes will be open to all traffic on Interstate 270 and U.S. 50.
Officials said people planning to travel through Maryland but not to the inauguration should avoid the Washington area entirely.
The Maryland State Highway Administration is activating its emergency operations center for the inauguration to monitor and respond to traffic conditions. Traffic is expected to be heaviest in the Washington area between 8 a.m. and noon on Inauguration Day.
