Police: Gunshots Self-Inflicted on Shooting Victim

Posted:

SALISBURY, Md. - Police say their investigation into a Monday morning shooting in Wicomico County shows the victim actually shot himself.  Authorities say 20-year-old Da'Quan Bratten of Salisbury told police multiple suspects were behind the violent crime.

Police responded to a scene at the intersection of East Road and Rose Street in Wicomico County around 8:30 Monday morning.  Bratten told police he had been shot in the leg and shoulder by multiple other people which sparked the search by police.  Five area schools were placed on a precautionary lock down during their search.  Neighbors were on high alert fearing a gunman was near-by.

"Its not safe for the kids as well as us.  But at the same time, there is nothing we can really do but just take precaution of it and be careful and be safe," said Otis Jones of Salisbury's west side.

Sheriff Mike Lewis told WBOC that a sheriff's deputy responding to the call crashed his cruiser on Naylor Mill Road while en route to the scene.

Bratten was taken to PRMC where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries.  The Wicomico Bureau of Investigations says charges are now pending against him.  Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact the WBI at (410) 548-4898 or Crime Solvers at (410) 548-1776.
