MILLSBORO, Del.- Delaware State Police have charged a Millsboro man with numerous traffic offenses after they say he fled from a traffic stop and led troopers on a short chase.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Monday on John J. Williams Highway in Millsboro. Troopers said a Ford Explorer was speeding and officers tried to pull the vehicle over.

Police said the driver took off and led police on a pursuit westbound on SR24 turning right onto Indian Mission Road and then westbound on Friendship Road. The Explorer turned left onto Cannon Road where the driver failed to stop at a stop sign and slid into a ditch, according to police.

The driver, 27-year-old Michael A. Denney of Millsboro, was charged with disregarding a police officer's signal, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, speeding in excess of 50 mph on a 2-lane or divided roadway and several other traffic-related charges. He is being held on $4,550 secured bail.
