WASHINGTON (AP) - A Maryland-based company and the U.S. government are asking a judge to dismiss a $60 million lawsuit filed by an American man now in prison in Cuba.
The lawsuit filed in November accuses the company and government of failing to adequately prepare the man for work he was doing in the country.
Lawyers for Development Alternatives Inc. filed documents in federal court in Washington on Tuesday asking a judge to dismiss the case brought by Alan Gross and his wife.
The lawsuit claims Gross should have been provided with better information and training.
DAI says federal law bars the lawsuit. The U.S. government also argued the case should be dismissed.
The 63-year-old Gross was arrested in December 2009 while on a USAID-funded democracy building program and later sentenced to 15 years in jail for crimes against the state.
