Delaware Groups Target Corporate Campaign Spending

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Opponents of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling opening the floodgates for corporate contributions to political campaigns are pushing for a constitutional amendment to clarify that, when it comes to campaign contributions, corporations are not people.

Common Cause Delaware, the Delaware chapters of the Sierra Club and the League of Women Voters, and the Delaware Coalition for Open Government are planning to rally at Legislative Hall in Dover on Wednesday to make their concerns known.

They are targeting the 3-year-old Supreme Court ruling know as Citizens United that declared that corporations enjoy the same First Amendment rights to free speech as individual citizens do and can therefore spend as much as they want to try to influence elections.
