BETHESDA, Md.- Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic and the Washington Capitals have announced the team's 41-game regional television schedule for the 2012-13 NHL regular season. Through Comcast SportsNet and the NHL's national television partners, NBC and NBC Sports Network, the Capitals' entire 48-game regular-season schedule will be televised throughout the region by NBC Sports Group networks.
Comcast SportsNet's live coverage of the upcoming Capitals season includes 38 games on Comcast SportsNet and three games on Comcast SportsNet Plus (CSN+). As previously announced, the Capitals will make seven exclusive national television appearances this season, with two games scheduled on NBC and five on NBC Sports Network. Seven additional Capitals games this season will also be available to a national audience outside of the Washington/Baltimore region through non-exclusive coverage on NBC Sports Network (one game) and the NHL Network (six games).
Comcast SportsNet's live game coverage of the 2012-13 Capitals begins with the team's season-opening game against the Southeast Division-rival Lightning at Tampa Bay on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. The network's live game coverage this season will be led by seven-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati, veteran analyst Craig Laughlin and longtime reporter Al Koken, who are entering their 16th consecutive season announcing Capitals games on the network.
The network's comprehensive pre- and post-game shows, Capitals Central and Capitals Postgame Live, will return this season to provide extended news, analysis and interviews surrounding games on Comcast SportsNet. Former Capital Alan May will again serve as analyst for the half-hour shows, with Koken (road games) and Rob Carlin (home games) alternating as hosts. Beninati and Laughlin will contribute to the coverage from the arena, with Jill Sorenson, the network's Capitals television beat reporter, and CSNwashington.com Capitals Insider Chuck Gormley providing reports.
Expanded coverage of the Capitals will also be featured throughout the season on the network's television news and entertainment programs, including Geico SportsNet Central and SportsTalk Live.
