Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del.- Dover police have arrested a 26-year-old Dover man accused of raping a 30-year-old woman in her sleep early Sunday morning.

John Courtney was taken into custody Sunday morning and charged with second degree rape.
According to police, the incident occurred at the Dover Motel on South DuPont Highway, where the victim and friends had rented a room for a small party. Police said several guests were invited, including Courtney.

Police reports indicate Courtney entered the victim's room and engaged in sexual intercourse without her consent as she slept.

Police said when the victim woke, she kicked Courtney away and ran to the bathroom screaming as Courtney fled the scene.

Authorities located Courtney a short distance from the hotel, where he was taken into custody.

Police committed Courtney to the JVCC on a $25,000 secured bond.
